Homecoming Weekend

Today Thor and I went to Guilford College's Homecoming football game. We helped out with CCE SGA's cookout fundraiser and served pizza/hamburgers/hotdogs to hungry sports fans. Then later this evening we went to UNCG's Fall Fest (aka Homecoming) Men's soccer game vs. Elon University. Elon was at the top of the SoCon standings but UNCG won 3-0, pushing them out of the top spot and taking over it! It was a great game complete with intense moments, beautiful goals and the euphoria of victory.

Japanese delight

We went to Kabutos Japanese Steak House last night with 2 of Thor's classmates and their spouses/fiancees. The air was fragrant with the smell of grease and soy sauce; the sounds of spatulas flying and people clapping. A LOT of food, the likes of which I'll be finishing for lunch and dinner today.

Thor's a great date:)

Bonding Over Food

Joylynn and I really seem to bond over food. Having meals in person together gives us time to sit down for a short while and rest from the hecticness.

A little John Coltrane

Thor and I went to a free performance on Guilford College's campus in Dana Auditorium in honor of John Coltrane. 4 amazing performers, one of which I know a little bit from the Armstrongs, played an hour of beautiful music all composed by John himself. He is a native of High Point, NC.

We also ate pad thai and spicy chicken for dinner and played DDR. Thor was ultra serious and kept saying, "one more game, one more game..." I beat him almost every time:)

Holly gave him a haircut with Jan's buzzers. All the ladies preferred his hair a little longer but in the end, Thor got what he wanted and got a buzz cut.

Joy

1/2

Joylynn and I went to half a soccer game tonight. We missed the first half because I ended up working later than either one of us expected. The night closed with apple pie ice cream.

1.5

Today Thor and I celebrate 1.5 years of being "together," meaning an official "be my boyfriend/girlfriend" relationship.

It's funny because at times, 1.5 years seems like forever and then other times it seems like it's just a nip in time. Both of our parents have been married for 30 years. That's 20 times LONGER than us!

Different States (for only a few days)!

Joylynn is on her way to Michigan by way of Washing DC this weekend. After so many months of being in two different states, now it seems down right strange to be apart.

Being strong

Today I want to be the best friend I can be to Thor.

(Just notice how Thor can write about events that happen each day and I have to go in the "feelings" direction - I can't help it, I'm a counselor!)

I want to be as patient, kind, encouraging, reassuring, and faithful as Thor has been to me when I've experienced being in weird funks.

( ... and so she brought me dinner. Chicken, mashed potatos, and spinich...what a friend. /Thor)

Distractions pull out the true feelings

I have secret ways of surprising Joy, but can't use them too often or else the surprise will only become a routine. We went to barnes and noble tonight where it is easier to talk sometimes while flipping through books on how to use punctuation.

"F" is for Friday and fun day!

Thor surprised me by calling me up this morning and seeing if I wanted to have lunch at Chick-Fil-A (www.chick-fil-a.com) this afternoon. Nothing better than having good ol' greasy fast food and a nice relaxing conversation with Thor.

Tomorrow is Lily Armstrong's birthday party, she will be turning 12 on 9/11/06. We will be hanging out with a bunch of 11 and 12 year old girls and the rest of the Armstrong family at Bounce U - a party place with inflatable toys/units to jump on. I'm planning to go to the Zoo with Ryan and Sara too!

Music Room Meeting

A long day, but a good day for me. Joy and I met at the music building tonight where she practiced some tunes to lead worship and audition for the Wizard of Oz. When I looked through the practice room window, she saw me in the reflection of the piano.

When Joy gets fired up about something she can talk and talk and talk. It is nice to listen.

Thor

More than "Howasyourday"

Thor posted his Tuesday entry BEFORE I decided to visit him after I finished playing the piano at UNCG's music building - only 2 minutes drive away from the B&B. So I think it made up for our very quick and perfunctory "Howasyourday?"

Community Night Dinner

Every Wednesday, the church Joylynn and I go to serves dinner to the needy in the community. Joylynn and I have the pleasure of looking after and serving dinner to a handful of kids. There is nothing messier than a 6 year old trying to drink a glass of milk with one hand and eat a piece of barbque chicken with a plastic fork and knife in the other. They are fun kids.

Howasyourday

Just a brief moment to exchange."howasyourday"s between us before Joylynn needed to go practice piano and I needed to prepare for a big meeting tomorrow. Brief, and really not enough, but enough to make contact.

Tennis

Today we ate lentil soup at the Armstrongs then went to work it off by playing a game of tennis up at Guilford. Neither of us are very good at tennis, but we are both good at having a good time.
